Going Mobile, With New POS Technology2 min read

Should you stay or should you go mobile with new POS technology?

Mobile POS systems have become more common in recent years, for good reason. These systems offer a number of advantages over traditional POS systems:

  • They are more flexible. Mobile systems aren’t tied down to a single location. Cash registers and desktop POS systems, on the other hand, cannot be moved easily.
  • They can be operated anywhere there is a mobile device and a card reader. All you need is a simple card reader and a tablet or smartphone. This minimal equipment investment makes it easy to get started with mobile POS systems.
  • They don’t require lots of extra hardware. A stationary POS system may require purchasing a touchscreen, a cash drawer, a cash register, a card reader, a printer, and other hardware. Mobile POS systems require much less hardware. Many even offer the option to email electronic receipts.
  • Modern mobile POS systems are cloud-based, offering more security and versatility. Cloud-based mobile POS systems are managed from remote servers. Software updates are automatic and data is stored securely offsite, relieving you of any responsibility for protecting customer data on your own hard drives.
  • Mobile POS systems make self-ordering convenient and profitable. Self-ordering kiosks and digital menus allow customers to process their own orders, without staff intervention. This means customers are free of sales pressure, can view product options at their leisure, and process payments directly. Sales always increase as a result.
  • Salespeople can interact and upsell on the spot. When sales associates and retail staff can process transactions directly on the floor, sales can increase. Customers can avoid lines, making the sales process quicker and more convenient. And staff can upsell directly on the spot.

Not all mobile POS systems are the same. Some offer self-ordering while others require staff to place orders. Some integrate accounting and inventory management while others do not.

To find the right mobile POS system for your business, analyze your current transaction processes and brainstorm which features would work best for your business. In some cases, a digital menu or a self-ordering system would increase sales and customer satisfaction. In other cases, a stationary touchscreen may be ideal. Regardless of the functions you want for your POS system, mobile POS systems are the way to go. They are more efficient, more feature-rich, and they bring in more profits.
