Located on the waterfront of picturesque Coal Harbour in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, just minutes from Vancouver’s financial district, LIFT’s architectural design is as elegant as it is stunning: sweeping, panoramic views of the North Shore Mountains, Coal Harbour, Burrard Inlet, Stanley Park, and the downtown Vancouver skyline; a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that “vanishes” in the summer; an illuminated, honey-colored onyx bar; and an oceanfront rooftop patio that overlooks the mountains, harbor, and park.  The casual elegant (business casual) restaurant is known for its West Coast hospitality, signature “whet” plates (which tourismvancouver.com says “are defined as ‘a small quantity taken to create appetite for more’”), and award-winning list of sustainably-produced wines, and, more recently, as the first fine dining restaurant in Vancouver to have a digital POS iPad.

On April 4th, LIFT Restaurant launched a four-week trial of a digital POS iPad. Over the coarse of the trial, and the months that followed, LIFT requested, monitored, and evaluated feedback from both guests and staff, and “tweaked” the iPad menu software, as needed.

Last month, the restaurant announced that it was “declaring the trial wildly successful” and would begin rolling out the interactive iPad menu software technology over the next few weeks. LIFT set the official launch of the digital POS iPad for October 13th.

The touch-screen digital POS iPad will showcase LIFT’s full food menu with gorgeous photographs and detailed descriptions; feature nutrition and other dietary information, as well as vegetarian and gluten-free selections; present daily specials; provide detailed wine information, including detailed descriptions of each label, wine tasting notes, and recommended food/wine pairings (see our previous blog post, “A Wine for all Seasons: New iPad Menu Features 500 Wine Labels”); and connect to social media (Facebook and Twitter) updates and promotions.

Guests will be able to search the restaurant’s entire menu and wine list, or sort items by category, after which they can add all of the items they wish to order to the “shopping cart” on the digital POS iPad menu, which servers will “bump” with a hand-held interface to retrieve each guest’s order (see our previous blog post, “Landmark Restaurant Reinvents Customer Engagement with iPad POS”).
