WYFF4 (NBC) News: Table 301 Launches Pilot Digital Menu Program2 min read
NBC Affiliate, WYFF4 News in Greenville, South Carolina, the leading news station in the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson-Asheville television market, reported last week that Table 301 has launched a pilot digital menu program for drinks at Soby’s in downtown Greenville.
Table 301 is a group of restaurants and related businesses in Greenville, South Carolina.
The group includes Soby’s (Southern culinary traditions with a focus on coastal Carolina and an award-winning wine list), Soby’s on the Side (a breakfast and lunch bistro deli-bakery), Deveraux’s (an upscale business casual restaurant serving contemporary American cuisine with French, Asian, and Southern influences), The Lazy Goat (Mediterranean-themed cuisine), and Nose Dive (Table 301’s new GastroPub which opened in February this year), Table 301 catering, and Loft at Soby’s (a facility for private dining, meetings, etc.). Soby’s, which opened in 1997, is the group’s original restaurant.
According to the NBC affiliate, if the pilot digital menu program at Soby’s is successful, Table 301 plans to expand the program to its other restaurants.
Soby’s started using a digital menu for its exclusive wine list on August 4th. Sommelier, Kevin Born, Soby’s in-house wine expert, catalogued the restaurant’s entire list of 550 labels on the digital menu and ensures that the restaurant staff is familiar with each of the wines in Soby’s collection.
Born also shows guests how to use the digital menu to search Soby’s extensive wine catalogue by label, country, or grape variety; find historical information on a specific vineyard; or select from any of Soby’s beers or mixed drinks. Born told WYFF4 News that he believes having all of the information on the digital menu empowers customers. “I can sell you a wine all day long,” he said, “but something about it being printed down gives you more power as a consumer.”
That power is limited however; the digital menu at Soby’s is “locked,” so guests cannot connect to email or social network sites. After making their wine, beer, or cocktail selection, guests return the digital menu to the server, as they would a traditional printed wine list.
