4food Reopens after a Reboot to Upgrade its iPad Handheld Menus2 min read

4food, the radically-different, high-tech, “[h]ealthy fast-food concept” that opened in Manhattan last September, is on a mission to “upgrade” and “De-junk fast food”™ by using fresh, locally sourced produce and other ingredients to create an “infinitely customizable” array of donut-shaped beef, pork, turkey, salmon, veggie, or egg-based burgers (filled with any one of 25 different Veggiescoops), nuggets, fries, and salads, all of which are featured on iPad handheld menus, which are an integral part of the total 4food experience.

On July 30, the restaurant announced that, beginning August 1, it would close for 5 weeks “to reboot.” The Madison Avenue restaurant, which is designed as a “community hub,” reopened on September 7, 2011 – their 1st anniversary.  The reboot enabled the restaurant to improve the consistency of their products, expand their line of offerings, better their employee training program, and expand their iPad handheld menus to give customers better access to information about 4food’s food, ingredients and sources, and create an even-better dining experience.

According to 6-year-old, New York City-based Mashable – purportedly, “the largest independent online news site dedicated to covering digital culture, social media and technology,” 4food has 6 iPad handheld menus which its customers can use during non-peak hours to place their order or post comments to Facebook or Twitter (which appear on its 15-foot Twitter feed wall).

During its “peak hours,” the iPad handheld menus are carried by 4food “hawkers” who move around the floor taking customer orders in order to help expedite the ordering process and reduce waiting time in line.

In addition to its iPad handheld menus and Twitter wall, 4food also uses dynamic menu boards to reduce waste and feature seasonal offerings. The restaurant is also known for its use of eco-friendly construction materials and dual-purposing their community kitchen commissary as a vocational training center.
