iPad Menus Make Qsine’s Culinary Tour Cruise to Celebrity Fame

Think of it as “a rollercoaster with a tablecloth!” The entire experience at Qsine — the world’s first ocean-faring restaurant to offer its culinary selections and wine list on an iPad menu – defies description. The “future-forward,” fun, Qsine was first introduced in April last year, to guests aboard Celebrity Cruises’ award-winning Solstice Class ship, Celebrity Eclipse. The unique restaurant is so enchanting that, according to Celebrity Cruises’ Vice President of Culinary Operations and James-Beard-nominated Master Chef, Jacques Van Staden, “the only serious thing in Qsine is the food.”

Qsine takes guests on a guided culinary tour, through a “a vertical selection of savory tapas and mezze served individually in custom-made frames” and presented on a fully interactive iPad menu, which also enable Qsine’s guests to make selections from about a hundred varieties of organic wine and an extensive cocktail list, enter tasting notes, or send an email with their favorite wine pairings. Qsine says that the objective of its culinary tour is to “awaken your palate through a playful and whimsical approach to familiar and memorable dishes from around the world,” but Van Staden says that it’s “to bring out our guests’ ‘inner foodie’ through a uniquely unordinary approach, elevating the dining experience to a performance art.”

Vacationers who sailed on Celebrity Eclipse were ecstatic and gave Qsine rave reviews! The response was so phenomenal that, recently, Celebrity announced that it is further expanding its plans to offer the Celebrity-exclusive, “uniquely unordinary” Qsine, complete with an iPad menu, not only on Celebrity Infinity (in December 2011) and Celebrity Summit (in January 2012), as it had announced earlier this year, but also on Celebrity Millennium (in April-May 2012).
