USA Today Reports that a signature hotel in Australia has replaced all of its paper menus with digital iPad Menus to offer guests a more high-tech and interactive dining experience.
It seems that the trend of upgrading menus from their current static paper format to a more versatile, elaborate, enticing and interactive digital format is a trend that is sweeping the globe. The USA Today reports that another entity has jumped on the bandwagon of these trendy iPad digital menus.
The USA Today news article poses the question of, “Can iPads replace waiters and waitresses? We’ll soon find out. A hotel restaurant in Australia last week ditched its printed menus and replaced them with iPads, giving us yet another peak at what the hotel of the future might look like.”
At Global Mundo Tapas in the North Sydney Rydges Hotel guests are being treated to a new dining experience that relies up on futuristic iPad menus.
Of the features that are noted in these digital iPad menus, the USA Today reports that they offer the following:
- Customers can browse the menu using the touch screen
- They can order meals and or beverages
- See high resolution photos of each dish with a detailed description
- Make custom cooking specifications for the kitchen, like “Well Done,” or “Medium Rare”
- Learn about different wines that compliment various dishes
- Pay for their meal using their credit card and the digital menu iPad
The digital menu iPads also are able to track the inventory of the restaurant, and will inform guests if a wine or menu item is not available.
Craig Simpson, Rydges area general manager, thinks the digital menu iPads greatly enhance customers’ dining experiences. “We have something that presents really well, sells our food really well and is absolutely dynamic,” he told the press.
